“Plain Sight” by Photographer Paloma Dooley

Before moving to her current home of Los Angeles, photographer Paloma Dooley lived in the Hudson Valley for about seven years. “Plain Sight” was her thesis project at Bard College, where she graduated with a BA in photography in 2015. Dooley describes the series as her “attempt to mine the landscape around me in search of hidden magic.” Taken with an 8×10 view camera, the images offer an opportunity for us to take in both the minutiae and grand expanse of these otherwise ordinary locations. “I aim to create a whole world within a photograph, and I want viewers to be able to step into my shoes, see what I saw, and inhabit these microcosms,” Dooley explains. “It is always a good idea to stop and look.”
